Root canal therapy is performed to save infected, damaged and dead teeth. Every tooth contains a nerve in its core that extends up from the root carrying vital nutrients to the tooth and transmitting sensation down to the mouth and body. When this nerve is injured beyond repair through infection or trauma the nerve can die. If root canal therapy (removal of the nerve tissue in the tooth) is not performed the untreated infection can lead to loss of the tooth. Once the root canal is successfully completed, restoring the tooth with a crown is usually highly recommended to preserve the tooth structure and provide strength for chewing. At Margolian Dentistry we use our high magnification microscopes to perform root canal therapy ensuring optimal results are achieved.
