When to start flossing kids teeth?

Many parents are under the impression that kids don’t need to floss in between their baby teeth. For some this is the case in the primary dentition if the baby teeth are spaced out and all surfaces of the teeth are accessible to clean with brushing alone. However, for many children there are minimal spaces between the teeth and flossing as early as 2 or 3 years old can be beneficial to prevent cavities forming between the teeth. Watch for the spacing in your kids teeth as they come in and ask your dentist if flossing is necessary for your your child. By age 6 all children should have introduced flossing as the adult teeth begin to come in and spaces begin to close. For more information contact our office at 905 436 2400.
