SLEEP APPLIANCE

SLEEP APPLIANCE

In many people the airway become smaller in diameter overnight. This constriction causes people to breathe faster in order to get the amount of air they need. The vibration of tissue as this fast moving air passes through is what we hear as snoring. In some, the airway will even close partially or fully, causing a decrease in oxygen in your body and a reflexive awakening in order to retain proper air supply.

Sleep Apnea can be treated two ways, either with a CPAP device (continuous positive airway pressure) or with an oral appliance. The oral appliance is a dental splint used to keep the lower jaw in a forward position, which opens the airway during sleep. Oral appliances are ideal for those with mild to moderate cases of sleep apnea and those who do not tolerate a CPAP device.
