Same-Day Crowns – Learn How You Could Receive Your New Crown in a Day

Dental crowns are frequently used to protect teeth that are damaged due to infection and decay, or after root canal therapy in Oshawa. We can also use crowns to cover teeth that are misshapen or severely discoloured.

A crown completely covers the tooth, extending down to the gum line. Typically, when you require a dental crown, it takes two weeks or longer to be custom-made in our dental lab.

Understanding the Process for a Dental Crown

Before we can make and fit a dental crown, we must prepare the tooth by removing all infection and decay, and carefully reshape it so that the new crown can fit comfortably and look aesthetically pleasing.

Once the tooth is prepared, we take a detailed digital dental impression. This is used to create your custom-made crown in Whitby.

While the crown is being made, the tooth must be protected by covering it with a temporary crown. The temporary crown remains in place until your permanent crown is ready. At this point, you will return to Margolian Dentistry so we can remove the temporary crown, try in the new one, and bond it permanently onto the tooth.

The entire process requires at least two visits. Same-day crowns are different, as we can prepare your tooth and make and fit your new crown on the same day.

What Is a Same-Day Crown?

A same-day crown is made from a strong ceramic material and is designed and created using the latest CAD/CAM technology. These crowns are beautiful and help eliminate the need for a second dental visit.

Understanding the Process for a Same-Day Crown

Initially, the process for having a same-day crown is similar to an ordinary crown. We will still need to reshape your tooth before taking a digital dental impression with our iTero scanner.

After taking the digital impression, our dentists can view it immediately on the screen in your treatment plan. Advanced software is used to design your new crown digitally. We can view the digital design from any angle, ensuring your new crown will look good and function fully.

Once we are completely happy with the design, it is transmitted to our on-site milling machine. Our state-of-the-art E4D milling machine will then mill your new crown while you wait.

The crown is milled from a solid block of pure porcelain. This porcelain is pre-shaded, allowing us to match the colour to your natural teeth closely. It doesn’t take long to mill the crown, and once it is ready, it is hand-finished and checked, and is ready to fit.

Durable, Beautiful and Precision Made

These same-day crowns are of the highest quality. Using digital technology ensures they are precision-made, which is extremely important. Your same-day crown will precisely cover your prepared tooth, creating a tight seal around the margin and helping to prevent further infection and decay from occurring underneath the crown.

Not Just for Dental Crowns

We can use this technology for other restorations. If you need a dental bridge or veneer in Ajax, we may suggest you have a same-day restoration instead of waiting for it to be custom-made in our dental lab.

Advantages of Same-Day Crowns

The immediate benefit is not having to visit us a second time, and you will not need a temporary crown. Preparing your tooth and fitting your new crown will only take a few hours from start to finish, making treatment extremely convenient, especially for those about to go away on vacation or who need the crown in time for a special event.

Of course, there are still occasions when custom-made restorations from our dental lab are a better solution, but if you are suitable for a same-day crown, we may recommend this option.
