Easy Tips for Successful Invisalign Treatment

If you have decided to have Invisalign treatment in Oshawa, then you are probably looking forward to starting your treatment plan and seeing your teeth straighten. Invisalign clear aligners are very easy to use and are ideal for anyone looking to straighten their teeth discreetly, but you will still need to make sure you use them correctly. We’ve put together some easy tips to help you get the most out of your Invisalign treatment.

  1. Keep your aligners hygienic by thoroughly cleaning your aligner trays frequently. Because the trays are clear, they can become discoloured if you don’t clean them properly. Cleaning your trays is easy; we will show you how to do this before you begin your treatment. Every time you remove your aligners, rinse them thoroughly and be sure to brush and floss your teeth before replacing them.
  2. When you first wear your aligners, give yourself some time to become accustomed to them. Any new dental appliance will initially feel a bit strange, and some people develop a slight lisp until they become accustomed to speaking with their aligners. If this is the case, practice speaking at home, and you will soon be able to speak normally.
  3. Initially, when you start wearing aligners, you may want to insert and remove them in private until you become accustomed to this practice. The aligners are designed to fit snugly over your teeth, so you might find it a little tricky to remove and replace them properly unless you are in front of a mirror. We show you how to insert and remove your aligners, but if you are unsure or find this task tricky, please contact Margolian Dentistry so we can help you.
  4. When you remove your aligners for mealtimes or for certain activities like playing sports or playing a musical instrument, ensure they are cleaned and stored properly. If you can, you could soak the aligners in a cleaning solution, so they are fresh and ready to go when you need to reinsert them.
  5. Keep track of how long you have worn a set of aligners, as it is essential to switch to the next set at the prescribed time. Set an alert on your phone or write down the time on a calendar to help you track your treatment properly.
  6. When you switch to a new set of aligners, it’s normal to feel some slight discomfort, and it can take several days to adjust to the new set. Some people prefer to change to a new set of aligners at night and will take an over-the-counter painkiller so they can sleep comfortably through the first few hours of wearing their new Invisalign aligners in Whitby.
  7. Be sure to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day, ideally only removing them while eating, drinking, or cleaning your teeth. If you leave your aligners out for longer than recommended, it can negatively impact your treatment.
  8. Keep the backup set of aligners handy just in case you lose your current set, or in case they become damaged. It can be useful to keep your previous set of aligners on hand in case of any mishaps.
