How to Invisibly Straighten Crooked Teeth with Invisalign

While many people wore braces during childhood to straighten their teeth, not everybody had this opportunity. Some people who did wear braces have seen teeth shift position with age. Whatever the reason, an increasing number of adults are now wearing braces which are primarily due to the introduction of newer and more discreet adult oriented orthodontic systems.

Here at Margolian Dentistry, we provide one of the most popular adult braces available today, and it is also highly effective for many common orthodontic problems. Best of all, it is so discreet that most people will remain completely unaware you are receiving treatment. It can be your little secret unless you choose to enlighten them!

Why Choose Invisalign?
Invisalign clear braces are very different from traditional fixed and highly visible metal braces. Instead of using brackets fixed onto your teeth, Invisalign moves your teeth with removable, clear BPA-free plastic aligners. These aligners look a little like teeth whitening trays and fit tightly over your teeth. Once in the mouth, they are virtually invisible.  The aligners are super easy to use and will have minimal impact on everyday life. When you choose Invisalign in Ajax, you won’t need to make any changes to your diet. Because the aligners are removable, there is no need to avoid sticky, crunchy or hard foods that would typically damage fixed braces. You can brush and floss normally, without the need to use special tools to clean around brackets and wires.

How Does It Work?
All you need do is to ensure you wear your aligners most of the time, ideally only removing them for meals or when you need to brush and floss your teeth. The aligners must be worn for at least 22 hours each day. Every set of aligners is used for two weeks, after which they are discarded so you can move on to wearing the next set which will continue tooth movements. The number of sets required depends on your treatment plan. For example, if only minor tooth movements are needed, you may need relatively few aligners, and you could complete treatment in a matter of months. Otherwise, most people typically complete treatment in a year, but this does vary! You can find out for sure after a dentist has assessed your teeth and jaws and once treatment is planned.

How Is Treatment Planned?
Your treatment is digitally planned, utilizing the latest technology, and best of all you get to be involved in your smile design. After determining if Invisalign is the correct solution, your teeth are digitally scanned which creates a highly accurate 3-D digital model of your mouth. We prefer to use a digital scanner because it is extremely precise, and it will be much more comfortable for you because you won’t need an uncomfortable and messy dental impression. Once we have a 3-D digital model of your teeth, we can plan exactly how each tooth will move, creating simulated images showing how your new smile will look once Invisalign treatment is complete. It’s an excellent way for you to assess the efficacy of treatment, and you can become involved with your smile design.

Once everybody is happy with the treatment plan, your Invisalign trays are precision-made, and you can begin the process of straightening your crooked teeth. Because there are no brackets or wires to adjust, all follow-up appointments are relatively short as we just need to check treatment is progressing as planned and providing more aligner trays as required.
